About the site's author, Ian Sharpe

I am a software developer based in Bath, South West England. I work at a digital printing company, TPM, writing programs to drive complex print runs and support administration and workflow.

Before that, I had a career in computer journalism. Starting with Europress, I moved to Future Publishing in Bath where for several years I was an editor and technical writer.

I worked on several publications, the best known of which was PC Plus. This was one of the UK's top-selling computer magazines back then.

Getting hooked on programming in the mid eighties diverted me from railway engineering into computing. From the start, I was writing shareware and other programs for publication alongside articles that must add up to something in the order of a million words.

My site contains a tiny selection of writing and programming that has its roots in those days, plus a few things done since. Some items are updated from time to time. Others are old but attract enough visits and downloads to justify themselves.

It isn't much but some bits are very popular. They are my contribution to the internet community in return for the huge amount I have had from it.

Contacting me

I get a lot of email, mostly requests for advice or programming. Composing a thoughtful answer to a seemingly simple enquiry can occupy a lot of time.

You, my visitors, are many, and I am one person with a day job. I used to try to please everyone but this often became oppressive so now I don't.

Most things here are not ongoing interests. I will only develop them further if time and inclination happen to coincide. This happens rarely. Programming in my own time is mainly about pursuing current interests and solving urgent work problems.

Please bear the above in mind when you click this link to email me.
